The large heart pendant is hand carved from ebony wood. You'll find graceful curves, with a sharper notch at the top to create a heart shape. The hole is drilled lengthwise through the center of the bead. Ebony is a descriptive term that can refer to one or more varieties of dense, dark or black hardwoods. Characteristically, ebony woods have a fine, tight wood grain, that takes a very nice polish. Ebony wood can have banding of dark brown and black shades, known as tiger ebony. So, you'll find some variation in color among the lot. Some beads are mostly dark, and in others you will find some striping. The generous size would make these hearts perfect for a focal pendant or could easily be incorporated into a craft project.
