Meranti wood beads have light brown or tan coloring, and may have yellow overtones. Some strands are very light with a visible wood grain. Other strands are slightly darker with less visible grain. The difference between the lighter and darker strands is subtle. And, some strands have a mix of lighter and darker beads. Meranti is the modern common name for a wood that is also sold in the market as "Philippine mahogany" or "Lauan," although these are misnomers. The wood is lightweight but durable. The beads are wax-polished for a smooth finish. A perfect neutral to combine with other wood beads, shell, bone, gemstones and other natural materials. Come on, let's make something beautiful!
